I'm about to do a bunch of toy reviews, so now seems like a good time to reshare this; I wrote it back in 2001 or so, I think? It doesn't include some of my earliest explorations, but it certainly explains a great deal about how central curiosity and exploration are in how I think about my sexuality.

Apologies for any formatting weirdness. Also, I'm posting it basically unread, since I'm all muzzy-headed at the moment. May go back and add some clarifications, corrections, and updates at some point, may not. Also, I suspect some of my age guesses about how old I was are over-estimates.

TINKERING

I was feeling like utter crap all day, but a nice long post-escorting nap really helped, and I was finally feeling pretty decent when time rolled around for the C-Space benefit. [livejournal.com profile] bec76, [livejournal.com profile] zodarzone, my friend Casey and her friend Joanna all headed over around 7pm. It was a fabulous time, and we also ran into Bec's sister and brother, [livejournal.com profile] limbicquestion, [livejournal.com profile] infowidget, and a whole assortment of other folks I know through various venues. We got there in time for the Dodgeball game, and spent a while cheering on Casey and Joanna in that (Bec has pictures), then headed inside to check out the Tesla coil demo, then off to Sex Ed (everything was based around a classroom theme) for a discussion of sex toys, with a focus on material safety. The woman running the session also providing a link I find especially handy: BadVibes.Org, site of the Coalition Against Toxic Toys -- lots of very useful information, all in one place. The topic of toy material safety has been gaining interest in recent years, and I'm very glad to see it; the standards for safety, for products that are going to be in extended contact with mucous membranes, are appalling low (ok, non-existent), and many toys are not actually labelled as to material at all. Anyway, that whole session was a lot of fun, and given the current toy design project [livejournal.com profile] grf and I are working on, getting the info about CATT was worth attending all on its own. We were already talking about these issues, so this was quite apropos. Anyway, back to the event -- having it in the museum was brilliant and fun -- the best other event was the planetarium show, which was so packed there were people on the floor. The guy running the show seemed to be having fun with his extremely excited and somewhat tipsy audience, and I'm very glad we didn't miss the last show. I also spent a lot of time just wandering the museum itself, and checking out the displays. I don't think I've been in Cleveland's Natural History Museum before, and it was nice to be reminded it was there. I hope their willingness to accomodate this event pays off in that regard -- reminding us it's there, and getting our real business more often in the future.

And another C-Space-affiliated event:
In accordance with the September full moon appearance we'll be walking the labyrinth located in Crown Point Farm in Bath, Ohio on Wednesday, September 26. http://www.crownpt.org/

Labyrinth walking is a practice used to center oneself, work on self alignment, and clear the mind. Labyrinths can represent life's journeys or pilgrimages. The walking and balancing that occurs can quiet the body, mind, and spirit and produce a receptive state for meditation and contemplation!

We will meet at C-Space (4323 Clark Ave. in Cleveland) at 815pm and leave by 830pm to go to Crown Point. That means we'll get there a little after 9pm. I heard back from Sister Mary Ellen (who was delighted with to hear about our use of the space for such an occasion), and she said that she'll let people know of our plans.

Hope to see you there!

(I'm not actually sure how they want RSVPs on this, but I'd suggest either contacting C-Space, or drop a comment here, and I'll get you the email address of the friend who contacted me about it. I won't be able to go, since I'll be in LA, but I thought other folks might be interested.

Today is going to be all about recuperation, and maybe a bit of housecleaning. I should also set aside some time to spend in my room, since I have J's three cats in there until Monday, and they could use a bit more affection than they're currently getting just through my intermittent trips in there.
Last night was fun. Good students, plus I got to hang out a bit with both [livejournal.com profile] syrinx_77 and [livejournal.com profile] infowidget, which makes me happy. When I got home, [livejournal.com profile] grf suggested we grab the clay from his truck and start working on some rough positives for some prototypes of the toys we'd like to make. So, he, [livejournal.com profile] bec76 and I spent the rest of the evening watching a special on praying mantises that I swear to maude has aspirations of being Peter and the Wolf (I eventually shut it off just because I couldn't handle the melodramatic background music anymore), and making toys. Well, toy-shaped things. I don't think it counts as a toy yet if you can't play with it. Still, lots of fun. No question about who's the sculptor in the group, though. Grafton's have all kinds of cool details. Mine... well, my ability to translate between brain and hands has always been more than a bit lacking. This'll take practice.

I'm exhausted yet again today, though. I really need to find some life pattern that doesn't revolve around sleeping massive and desperate amounts on the weekends to make up for sleep dep during the week. It totally screws what little normal sleep pattern I actually have, and it doesn't do all that much for the continued exhaustion. Not getting fixed tonight, though. Patient-instructing, then I'm getting together for late dinner with a friend.
