Linketies, I wish I could quit you...

Attempts to upload critter pics, stymied.
Attempts to find specific items online, mostly stymied.

Linketies it is.
How many items do I scan for a usual linketies post? Currently have 324 sitting in my "Linketies" folder in email, and another 507 in Google Reader. That's since late Sunday night. Sometimes I wish the world weren't so damned interesting. (Initial scan-through is titles-only, so it's really only like reading 800 or so lines, not 800 or so articles -- the stuff that actually gets posted gets read or skimmed to varying levels depending on why I'm posting it). Biggest problem is not accidentally reposting the same stuff over and over, since I'll often hit the same news item from a few different sources.

Also, have I mentioned how much Grafton rocks? He's been working away on my bedroom project without me, and made massive progress.

Well, fuck. Facebook won't auto-crosspost my LJ posts anymore? That blows. Anyone who's been following me through here, you'll just have to come over to my LJ directly from now on, I guess. -- I haven't gotten this message myself -- does anyone have confirm/deny on this for sure? So far my posts today have been cross-posting as normal.

Fuck. Work-friend with very ill mother just ran out of the office. Good thoughts his way. (he's back now, and things seem ok with him mom for the moment, so that's good)

Also, hate this migraine. Hate hate hate. Getting worse again, and I'm back in sunglasses at my desk, and feeling about as nauseaus as I ever get with migraines (which thankfully isn't near as bad as for some people -- they never actually make me vomit, they just make me feel full-body queasy)

BTW, as folks are looking for holiday gifts, I'd like to recommend Heifer International. I've been doing donations to them as presents to my Dad for several years now, and I really like their model. Although they're technically a religiously-founded organization, as far as I've ever been able to ascertain, they don't prosyletize or evangelize at all as part of the Heifer mission.
Heifer International is a global nonprofit with the goal of ending poverty and hunger in a sustainable fashion. Established in 1944, Heifer International gives out gifts of livestock, seeds and trees and extensive training to those in need.

Another truly awesome organization, in great need of support: Doctors Without Borders

Also, if you donate to United Way through work, and would like to know more about how to use their online system to direct funds to organizations that aren't directly part of United Way, let me know, and I can send you the screenshots I just sent to some friends. It's a little obscure if you don't know to look for the options. (Preterm, our local LGBT Center, and The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland are all missing from their lists, so I've been motivated to find ways to work around that)

Megyn Kelly's claim that pepper spray is "a food product, essentially" has quickly become infamous. Let's take a look at the ways this "food product" fucks people up.

R.I.P. Anne McCaffrey, Creator of Pern and The Ship Who Sang -- *sigh* One the major influences of my teens, and some of the earliest adult SF/F I read. (I'm not going to tackle it now, but given that it's talked about in the article, I do feel it necessary to point out that there are very mixed feelings about The Ship Who Sang amongst politically-minded folks with disabilities)

It would have been easy for students at UC Davis to riot after watching their classmates being assaulted with pepper spray. Instead, they remained nonviolent. That simple act gave them the moral high ground. And that's how social change movements grow.

Protestors say they will not stop until they've driven the ruling military council from power as they did Hosni Mubarak in February.

Sure, lots of people probably mock Twilight because it’s for girls. But most of the commentary I’ve read about Twilight has been by women, pointing out as gently as possible that it’s not exactly a female-positive storyline to fall in love with someone WHO BREAKS INTO YOUR HOUSE TO STARE AT YOU WHILE YOU’RE SLEEPING (countering an argument that twilight-bashing is misogynistic)

Now that the mad poetry of Arnold's Total Recall DVD commentary has captured the hearts of an entire planet, let's take a look back at his thrilling repartees with Conan The Barbarian director John Milius. Will these old DVD commentaries redeem him in the public eye for that whole love child imbroglio?

So anyway here’s the Dominionist wisdom about what to do if you’re an abused woman, also why you are an abused woman in the first place. I bet you can guess – it’s because of feminism.

OMG, I can't believe there are people out there who say that critics of Twilight are misogynists. Have they READ the books? Because, jesus...I mean, I have definitely seen some less-positive role models than Bella--she could be worse--but Edward is the biggest freaking stalker/controlling partner/tool of the patriarchy I've ever seen in YA fiction. Well, at least, when you consider that he's not the villain.
