I was recently treated to another round of “disabled people need to just ask for accommodations, then they’d be given them,” with the usual accompaniments of “you shouldn’t be so angry” and “you should be nicer."
So I figured, okay. I know this is bullshit from a lifetime of experience, but let’s gather some data.

OH. THAT'S what Google+ is up to.

Honestly, I was worried that distributing this film would ruin my professional career and hurt my credibility. I see now how sex-negative and transphobic that belief was! I’ve actually gotten a lot of positive feedback and encouragement so far. -- Can't actually see the links from work, but it sounds like something I'd like to check out.

I do not think people realize just how inane, smug, and ridiculous their “You could just” chirpy advice sounds to people who are poor (whether or not they are working), juggling the issues we all deal with (child care, medical care of lack thereof, housing), and trying to eat well. Gluten-Free Girl speaks out about online harassment: “I’m sorry that your life is so small and sad, but I’m not going to stop saying my story.”

The very words “family planning” light up the limbic centers of American politics. From a distance, it seems like a culture war showdown. Close up, in places such as Bweremana, family planning is undeniably pro-life. When births are spaced more than 24 months apart, both mothers and children are dramatically more likely to survive. Family planning results not only in fewer births, but in fewer at-risk births, including those early and late in a woman’s fertility. When contraceptive prevalence is low, about 70 percent of all births involve serious risk. When prevalence is high, the figure is 35 percent. (a pro-life argument for supporting family planning)

Lizz Winstead, among other things, is a tireless and passionate advocate for women’s reproductive health. If you don’t recognize her name by now, you most certainly recognize her work. She co-created The Daily Show (where she also served as head writer) and Air America (home to Rachel Maddow!) and has been doing stand-up comedy for years. In a time like now where it seems like comedy is barely starting to let women into its ranks, Winstead is an inspiration to all women looking to get into similar work.

We all know the benefits of birth control pills: they’re safe, effective, regulate your period (hello, cramps and flow!), help fight acne, and when taken properly, prevent pregnancy. Your hormones are under control, the sun is shining and birds are chirping your favorite song.
But what happens when you go OFF hormonal birth control pills (BCPs)? This is something rarely discussed – or at least, discussed much less than what to expect when you go ON BCPs. So, let me share my story with you.
(a lot of good discussion and other people's experiences in the comment section, too)
