First Firebowl at the new place...

Looks like we're having our first firebowl at the new place on Saturday! It'll be for Jer's B-Day, since he moved and packed through his actual day. If you're local, and not already on the email invite list, drop me a comment, and I'll get you the directions.
I can see a light at the end of the tunnel in regards to the moving. I'll be going over to the old place tonight to see how Mark's doing with the cleaning, to do a final dog poo sweep, to grab our nice trash cans, and to move the rest of the stuff out of the basement, but my place is essentially done, except hauling out the trash/junk. Bec and Jer have accomplished a lot, but still have another big load left to come over, and we haven't yet started on moving Liv, but with enough bodies, I think we can do that pretty quickly. We'll be renting the truck for this Sunday, if anyone wants to lend a hand (yes, that's a total of four truck rentals for this whole move. Oy. The timing and practicality issues really made it worth it, though).
The cats are utterly thrilled with the jungle of boxes we've made for them. Also, Spike likes to play with the ice cubes in the pet water -- I watched him spend a good ten minutes with his paw in the bowl, chasing them around. The dogs are loving the new yard, although Tarma's being more recalcitrant than usual about coming in. Once we get all the yard/fence stuff taken care of (we've got a lot sitting out there we don't want them getting into, as well as the Leroy-gap in the front gate), they'll get to be outside playing much more often.
The "High Priority" items we discussed last night:
*Replacement cell for Grafton -- Ordered
Toilet paper -- we're almost out at the new place!
*Reschedule Gas meter reading -- Scheduled for Sep 1st, 12-4pm.
Protect cat food -- need to develop dog-proof location for cat food at new place
Bath edge splash guards -- I noticed during my shower that we get a lot of water on the floor in the front house when we shower. Some of those little curvy things should fix that. Also need a new shower curtain.
Caleb's cat door -- have door, thanks to Amsel. Just need to swap out nice wood door for cheap hollow-core before we poke a hole through it.
Stair grippers, back stairs -- Becca will count number needed
Cabinet magnets -- to keep kitchen cabinets closed. Need count.
Crack in bec's tub -- need to determine if tub is fiberglass or ceramic before determining fix.
Electrical work -- front basement: shocking bit, dead bit. also, check house outlets and lights, both houses, and identify and label circuits -- once we determine anything electrical that needs to be resolved, I'll get an electrician in for all of it at once. We need to locate the outlet tester so we can test everything in both houses. I'd especially like to know where grounded vs ungrounded outlets are. I'd also like to identify and label all circuits, and see if any look particularly badly overloaded -- we might be able to afford to have them separated out into more circuits.
*Vent cleaning -- Coming on Thursday, this week.
*Truck rental -- arranged. Will need Jer's help to go collect it on Sunday morning.
To remember at old place -- shower massager, fencing materials, trash cans, rest of basement boxes, fans, cleaning supplies. Need to get replacement blinds for old place also.
Front steps -- must add bricks and cement in, in order to prevent Leroy from going under front fence.
Evaluate screens -- all houses. Need to know where oldest windows are, and where windows don't have screens. This will figure into window replacement plans, and possible picking up extra screens in the meantime.
Beadboard in bathroom -- and general reassembly of Liv's bathroom. Must measure for and pick up supplies.
Leak in bec's ceiling -- need to determine whether this is active leak or not, and where exactly it's coming from. May need to get roofer out to repair.
Wasp nest by back kitchen window -- need to pick up wasp killer
Fitting a/c in bec's room -- need to figure out stabilization in window, since it was damaged by previous tenant.
Fence latch, middle fence -- need to pick up, so we can limit the dogs to parts of the yard as necessary.
Sealing back basement -- cleaning/bleaching/painting
Moving mailboxes -- need to purchase new mailboxes; existing are too small. Also need to make sign for front gate, and attach wireless doorbell.
Caleb's doorknob -- needs replacing.
Running data and coax to back house -- Have supplies, except for conduit. Need to determine exit and entry points, and whether we want to run it underground to keep it out of the way.
Moving wireless to first floor -- We'll get better signal to back house and neighbor if it's upstairs.
New router -- once we get this, move old router to back house. Caleb's researching.
Moving mark's truck -- need to figure out getting Mark's truck repaired, or finding a place to put it, and a way to get it there, until we can.
Asbestos wrap -- finish encapsulation. May need more tape, if plastic doesn't work.
Level washer -- Grafton's checking this today.
Cat closet -- need waterproof sheeting, aluminum flashing, tiles, material for dog barrier.
Attic fan -- need to research installing these; will popping a fan in a window in there have the same effect?

Date: 2009-08-26 06:15 pm (UTC)Sorry about not regassing the car. Penske's got a pending charge on my card for 269 that hasn't yet processed through for the 140 it actually was, and it's made this week more than a bit tight. I'll happily send you an amazon card or something to make up the difference. Everything else ok with it when you got it back? I asked Grafton and Bec to vacuum it out before sending it off with you. (also, I don't think they filled the windshield wiper fluid when you bought it, or I couldn't figure out how to trigger it -- might want to check that)

Date: 2009-08-26 06:20 pm (UTC)I'll check the fluid, but it shouldn't be an issue since I need to get quite a bit swapped out for things that are rated for our winters, anyway. The joys of buying a car in the south.

Date: 2009-08-31 07:17 pm (UTC)The renovations you are taking on seem so huge. Fix a crack in the tub, replace the windows, wrap asbestos...it's hard to believe that you happen to have the skills among you to handle that, you know? Just say I'm pretty amazed by you right now. And your role -- coordinator, contractor, pet wrangler, Big Mama -- it essential and suited perfectly to you. It just seems like this couldn't have worked out better all around, dig it?
Is the sign for the gate going to say Villa Villekula? 'Cause it should. I wish I was able to attend your triumphant inaugural firebowl, yes, very much I do. It will be splendid, my love. Savor and relax.

Date: 2009-09-01 06:04 pm (UTC)Oh, yes indeed!
And the practical list is also accompanied by a "fun" list, including things like abstract art windows, and cat ladders and such. Can't wait 'til we get to some of those!
I'm constantly amazed that I actually _own property_ now. So very bizarre. And a remarkable amount of fun.
I can't wait to show you around!
